History of mathematics in the early years teacher training: a survey of researches in Brazil
Abstract
In this article we identify and build an overview of works that deal with the History of Mathematics in the initial training courses for the early years teachers, of elementary school, called pedagogues that are considered the ones who first teach mathematics in the early years of school. Thus, from the literature review and the process of pre-reading, selective reading, reflective reading and interpretative reading for analysis of secondary sources, we present a brief survey of theses and dissertations produced in Brazil that deal with the chosen theme. For this, we specified keywords and performed three searches in June 2019: the first in the CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations and the other in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). It is inferred from the survey, that there are only few works that address the object we investigated, which shows a demand for investigations in History of Mathematics directed to the training of the teachers who will work Mathematics in the early years, as we have already highlighted. We also verified that the researches approached in the importance given the insertion of the History of Mathematics in the initial training of teachers of the initial years of the elementary school, emphasizing favorable aspects of its use present in the analyzed legislative documents, and from the results found in the pedagogical training proposal related to the History of Mathematics. The researches vary in the theoretical procedures adopted and in the concerns assumed by the researchers through the results found. In conclusion, we understand that the production of these works are still characterized as early steps taken towards the insertion of aspects related to the teaching of the History of Mathematics in initial training courses for teachers who will work in the early years.
