BOVINE PEROSOMUS ACAUDATUS - A CASE REPORT

Abstract

Taillessness or anury or perosomus acaudatus is seen as a common defect in dairy and beef cattle characterized by lack of coccygeal vertebrae and deformed sacral vertebrae with a sunken perineal region (Roberts, 1971). Complete absence of the tail or deformity of the appendage occur relatively commonly as a congenital defect and is thought to be inherited in Holstein cattle and in Landrace and Large White pigs. It is often seen in combination with other deformities of the hind quarters such as atresia ani and uro-genital tract abnormalities (Blood and Radostits,1989).
