The article discusses the trends of changing the curricula in music universities, associated, on the one hand, with the obvious expansion of research interests and the introduction of new interdisciplinary subjects, and on the other hand, with the involvement of new regions and national cultures. Similar changes have occurred in the field of musicology and in the principles of teaching at musical universities respectively in the recent decades. Due to the interpenetration of musicology and the humanities “musical culturology” has gained relevance, as well as the issues of systematization and comparative analysis of musical cultures. The cultures of the Eastern area are of particular interest due to their originality and research methods. Interesting facts can be seen when considering the activity and work the Armenian composers living in Iran. Studying the culture of the Armenian diaspora as a branch of Armenian scientific knowledge can become the basis for working up a special course in the programs of the History and Theory of music.
