Amorphous Fe78Si9B13 ribbons and zero-valent iron (ZVI) powder were used to remove carbon tetrachloride (CTC) in the neutral oxic environment. The amorphous Fe78Si9B13 ribbons showed significantly better dechlorination performance than the ZVI powder, and the CTC could be degraded nearly completely within 3 h. The recyclability of amorphous Fe78Si9B13 ribbons was investigated, and the results confirmed their effectiveness and stability to remove the CTC for at least ten times. Our work demonstrates the application potential of amorphous alloys as an alternative to ZVI in the dechlorination of chlorinated organic compounds, and can provide new ideas for designing efficient dechlorinating agent in the actual field groundwater remediation.
