Recent archaeological investigations carried out under the forum of Gigthis in autumn 2020 have uncovered a succession of strata and remains, the earliest of which date back to the 5th century BC. As such, a reference stratigraphy has been established for this site, whose urban center seems to have been abandoned between the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 5th century AD. The study of material culture reveals a very open city, strongly involved in Mediterranean networks, as shown by the great diversity of ceramics imported from several Mediterranean sites such as Carthage, Athens, Sardinia, Magna Grecia and Malta. Urban remains discovered under the forum show that it was built on a densely occupied area from Punic times to Roman Antiquity.
