The presence of the conservator in archaeological research projects
Abstract
This article shows the trajectory of archaeological conservation through the years of development of ordinances, regulations and laws and also shows the effort of different actors involved in the preservation of archaeological heritage. That, due to effective action, culminated on significant advances also on archaeological material conservation. The present article also aims to show the possibility of applying archaeological conservation procedures aggregated to the research projects, and also the importance of the presence of a conservator acting inside the project teams. In the conclusion, there are examples of archaeological conservation actions applied to materials collected on the Hybrid Archaeology and Heritage Management projects, where protocols for curative and preventive conservation procedures were taken both on the field and in the lab, following recommendations from the Ordinance Nº 196/2016.
