Chronic renal failure in patients hospitalized for heart failure
Abstract
Aim of the study: Assessment of the incidence of real and diagnosed chronic renal failure in patients hospitalized for heart failure, assessment of factors affecting the recording of the diagnosis. Methods and patients: Retrospective analysis in patients treated for heart failure over a period of 6 months in a cardiology department. The diagnosis of heart failure was based on symptoms, elevated NT-proBNP level and echocardiographic examination. Only an eGFR below 60 ml/min/f was taken for the CKD diagnosis. Results: 61% of hospitalized heart failure patients had CKD, but only 31.8% of CKD patients were diagnosed. The appearance of CKD in the diagnosis was most influenced by the severity of eGFR, less by the type of heart failure and not at all by diabetes as a comorbidity. Conclusion: Chronic kidney disease is a common but underdiagnosed companion of heart failure that needs more attention in the future due to the beneficial effects of SGLT2 inhibitors.
