Nb-Si based alloys have the potential to serve as alternative materials for hot section components in advanced aircraft engines, offering the advantage of improved operating temperature while preserving a lightweight design. The existing research on Nb-Si-based alloys has predominantly focused on conventional casting and directional solidification techniques. However, the microstructure and properties of these alloys are yet to demonstrate satisfactory alignment with specific hot-section materials and processes. This study provides an overview of the functions performed by various alloy constituents in Nb-Si based alloys as well as design concepts for alloy compositions. The main objective of this work is to examine the powder preparation process in the manufacture of Nb-Si-based powders and assess their properties in different ways. This paper provides an overview of several technologies for forming Nb-Si based alloy powders. It explores the interplay between powder preparation, forming process, microstructure, and features. Additionally, it investigates the current challenges and potential future advancements in Nb-Si based alloy powder-forming technology.
