In this study, two techniques (CST and Ansoft HFSS) are used and compared for developing typically pyramidal and conical horn antennas which associated with waveguides operation at 28 GHz for 5G communications. The radiation performance of both horn antenna types is computed and compared. Comparing the recommended horn antenna with results of previous workers showed that the recommended antenna covered all requirements better than the results of previous workers. Both software’s show almost the same results for the simulation of horn antennas in terms of accuracy and reliability of the results obtained by HFSS. The recommended conical horn showed are excellent performance, with bandwidth and realized gain for CST and HFSS are (48.2) GHz and (18.4) dBi, respectively. Besides, return loss (-42, -45.56), VSWR (1.2, 1.01) and radiation efficiency is (99.46%, 99.99%) by CST and HFSS techniques, respectively. Moreover, aperture antennas in size is 34.4 mm. In addition, the conical horn offers better radiation performance whereas the pyramidal horn is smaller than the conical horn antenna. Radiation characteristics, gain and efficiency are reasonable and satisfactory, which corresponds to the quality of coverage of 5G bands.
