In Soviet Russia and other Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the term Great Patriotic War is used to characterize the Second World War. The spirit of struggle, which is tried to be built on the holiness and the love of the homeland, was tried to be brought to the fore with the same name in other critical wars in the history of Russia. In the Great Patriotic War, there is another element that has been noticed to increase the moral motivation, combat power and endurance of the soldiers in harsh conditions: Folk songs/Songs. Being one of the important symbols of folklore, folk songs/songs constitute the power and support of the soldier and a way of hope for people in facade conditions with its structure that tells the stories of previous heroism and that each soldier can identify with or attribute a value to himself. Realizing this influence of the folk songs, the Soviet administration started sending records to the fronts along with ammunition. Along with folklorists appointed by the administration, volunteers try to record new folk songs shaped at the front. In this study, the features, formation and effect of the folk songs on the Great Patriotic War are examined.
