Cancer incidence in the Polyclinic René Vallejo Ortiz. 2019-2020

Introduction: cancer is one of the most relevant challenges of our times for the man, it constitutes one of the illnesses of greater incidence on the world population, until 2020 19,3 millions of new cases were reported and 50,6 millions of people living with cancer. Objective: to characterize the incidence of cancerin the Polyclinic ¨René Vallejo Ortiz¨ from Manzanillo municipality during the year 2019-2020. Method: an observational-descriptive-retrospective study was carried out. The sample group was made up by 86 patients with a diagnosis of cancer by biopsy. Variables were studied as: age, sex, type of cancer and diagnosis the years. The data were processed according to the descriptive statistics. Results: the greatest percentage of cancer was contributed by the age group 60-79 years (52, 3 %), the female sex (59,3 %) and the years 2020 (53,5 %); the most frequent type during the study period was the skin cancer (47,7 %) and the lung cancer (15 %) and the female sex skin (19,8 %), lung (11,6 %) and breast (9,2 %) and in men were skin (28 %), lung (3,4 %) and prostate gland (3,4 %). Conclusion: the incidence of cancer in the studied period was upward, prevailing in advanced age, the female sex and as main locations skin and lungs.
