This essay identifies and discusses the influences, opportunities, and weaknesses exposed by the pandemic of the Sars-Cov-2 virus (COVID-19) in urban mobility, focusing on the Brazilian profile and public policies. We present the urbanization context and the concepts of urban mobility and sustainability in addition to discussing statistical data on the exposed topics, aiming for comparative effects. As main results, the essay presents how COVID-19 impacted the population in different ways, mainly those that already were socio-economic fragile and mobility conditions before the crisis. Likewise, it exposes the risks of regulatory setbacks related to sustainable mobility due to the pandemic and the opportunities generated by the adoption of digitization solutions, like telecommuting. We conclude that there is a direct relation between COVID-19 and socio-economic aspects in the intensity of such impacts and that the pandemic reinforces the need to revisit public policies and to encourage public-private cooperation that allows the development of smart and sustainable cities.
