Acute infectious pancreatitis caused by Salmonella enteritis: A case report

Abstract

This case study delineates the medical journey of a 25-year-old male who was hospitalized due to Salmonella enteritis and Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). Remarkably, he developed acute pancreatitis on the third day of his hospital stay, which was marked by a significant rise in serum lipase levels within two days following the enteritis onset, accompanied by a sustained increase in serum pancreatic enzyme levels. While the patient showed no symptoms by the fourth day, his elevated serum lipase levels persisted. This case underscores the potential for acute pancreatitis to emerge as a complication of Salmonella enteritis.
