Psychometric Properties of Prenatal Self-Assessment Questionnaire: Assessing maternal adjustment during pregnancy

Objective(s): The aim of this study was to determine the psychometric properties of the prenatal self-assessment questionnaire in a sample of Iranian pregnant mothers. Methods: The Prenatal Self-Assessment Questionnaire which was administered to a sample of pregnant women along with the Experiences in Close Relationships Questionnaire (ECR-RS). Exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha and Interclass Correlation Coefficient, LISREL 8.8 and SPSS 21 softwares. Results: In all 317 pregnant mothers participated in the study. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed actable fit indexes for the data. The convergent validity showed good correlation coefficient of the Prenatal Self-Assessment Questionnaire with the Experience in Close Relationships Questionnaire ranging from 0.32 and 0.459. In addition, the high correlation of the subscales with the total score confirmed the construct validity of the questionnaire. The content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by 5 experts. The internal consistency as estimated by Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the total maternal adjustment score during pregnancy was 0.935. Also the stability of the questionnaire with interval of 3 months showed satisfactory result. Conclusion: The findings suggest that the Iranian version of the Prenatal Self-Assessment Questionnaire has sufficient psychometric properties and is valid and reliable instrument for assessing maternal adjustment in Iranian pregnant women.
