The International Tribology Conference (ITC) Sendai 2019 was held on 17–21 September 2019 at Sendai International Center in Sendai City, Japan. About 900 people participated from 40 countries and regions, and about 600 papers were presented, where more than half of the presenters were from overseas. We thank all the people who joined and contributed to ITC.Papers submitted to this special issue went through normal peer-review process, and 24 papers were accepted for publication in this Part 1. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to thank all the authors for their contributions, and also thank the editors, reviewers and the editorial office for their efforts.The Paper Award Selection Committee of the Organizing Committee selected excellent papers from those papers submitted before the end of June, and the following three papers were awarded the ITC 2019 Best Paper Award. Award Trophies were presented to the authors at the award ceremony in the Banquet held on 19th September, 2019. Congratulations!♢“Propagation of Large Spalls in Rolling Bearings,” by Guillermo E.
