Endobronchial Leiomyoma, an Unusual Tumor in an Unusual Site
Abstract
Leiomyomas are benign smooth muscle tumors most commonly seen in the uterus occasionally in the gastrointestinal tract. Pulmonary localization is extremely rare with the incidence of <2%. We report the case of a 22-year-old nonsmoking female who presented with left-sided chest pain and streaky hemoptysis. Chest xray showed left lingular lobe and lower lobe collapse. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed endobronchial obstruction in the left main bronchus. Debulking was done with electrocautery snare. Histopathological examination showed spindle-shaped cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Immunohistochemistry showed smooth muscle actin positivity suggestive of leiomyoma. The patient is under follow-up without any complication and recurrence.
