Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), important component of tumor microenvironment, secrete a variety of factors that play an important role in the occurrence and development of malignant tumors. Stromal cell derived factor-1(SDF-1) secreted by CAFs and its specific receptor CXCR4 can promote the activation and maintenance of CAFs, regulate tumor biological behaviors including tumor proliferation and survival, tumor angiogenesis, invasion and metastasis, and drug resistance in autocrine or paracrine manner. Therefore, research targeting at SDF-1/CXCR4 may provide a new strategy for inhibiting tumor progression and clinical treatment.
