L’industrie versus patrimonialisation : questionnement autour d’une transition vers une économie culturelle
Abstract
The extractive industry has shaped the territories and its impact seemed durable, but deindustrialization has been synonymous with failure. At first, the image of the mine and of the factory was rejected, leading to a phenomenon of depatrimonialisation. Gradually, the transition from a situation of breakdown – in terms of society, landscape and economy – to a recognition of the past has led to a change in attitude. From a break to the recent integration of the past, industrial wastelands tend to become objects of patrimonialisation, history bearers and an evolving source of revitalization. This contribution aims to question the industry patrimonialisation process. It is based on the example of the Nord-Pas de Calais Mining Basin, admitted in 2012 into UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
