Since the implementation of the policy of reform and opening up,the dramatic evolution of land use and landscape pattern in basins has been brought about by the rapid development of urbanization, threatening the health of its natural eco-hydrological environment.Taking Liuxi River basin in Guangzhou as research object, this paper uses the land use transition matrix and landscape pattern indexes to analyze the spatio-temporal evolution of land use types and landscape pattern based on the land use data of different years from 1980 to 2015.The results show that:①The arable land, which is one of the dominant landscape in Liuxi River basin, was greatly converted to construction land and gradually fragmented and homogenized, resulting in the fragmentation and homogenization of landscape pattern in whole basin;②The dramatic changes of land use types and landscape pattern mainly occurred in the middle and lower reaches, especially during the period from 2000 to 2010;③The rapid growth of total population and the increase of proportion of tertiary industry were main urbanization indicators for the conversion of arable land into construction land.
