Summary: The development of electroluminescent (EL) devices that are deformable through bending, folding, rolling, twisting, or stretching or conformable to a substrate with an arbitrary surface contour has progressed steadily in recent years. In this review, the development of deformable alternating current (AC) powder EL devices is explored. First, the fundamental physics and the architecture of EL devices are introduced, followed by a discussion of the factors influencing the performance of the devices. Second, state-of-the-art flexible and stretchable AC powder EL devices are described and evaluated in detail, and the current status of research into deformable EL devices is outlined. Finally, the bottlenecks in the development high-performance conformable AC powder EL devices are identified, and key future research challenges are highlighted.
