La ermita de San Juan de Cárcamo: lo problemático de su advocación y lo incierto de una inscripción atribuida al Císter en el año 1150
Abstract
La ermita de San Juan de Cárcamo ha generado en las últimas décadas un debate sobre una inscripción hallada en su interior en 1975. Leída en su momento como “el año 1150 el Císter vino”, en torno a esta interpretación se han generado multitud de hipótesis y muchas sospechas. El presente artículo pretende dar por zanjada esa discusión mediante una nueva lectura de la inscripción y, además, trata de aclarar el oscuro pasado de la ermita, conocida a lo largo de la historia bajo tres advocaciones distintas. Bere garaian honela irakurri zuten: “1150. urtean Zisterra etorri zen” (“el año 1150 el Císter vino”), eta interpretazio horren inguruan hipotesi ugari eta susmo asko sortu dira. Artikulu honek eztabaida hori itxita utzi nahi du inskripzioaren irakurketa berri bat eginez, eta horrez gain, baselizaren lehenaldi iluna argitu nahi du, historian zehar hiru izenekin ezagutu izan baita. Over the last few decades, the hermitage of San Juan of Cárcamo has generated a discussion about an inscription found in its interior in 1975. At that time, it was read as “the year 1150 Cistercians came”, and a lot of hypothesis and suspicions have arisen about this interpretation. This paper addresses this topic, trying to bring this discussion to an end by proposing a new reading of this inscription and, in addition, aims to clarify the dark past of this hermitage, which has received three different dedications throughout its history.
