Roll Back Malaria: an historical footnote

Abstract

Abstract Prompted by the 20th anniversary of Roll Back Malaria, the author recalls hypotheses concerning a major new initiative to control malaria in Africa put forward by WHO AFRO and the World Bank in 1996. These hypotheses, and the reactions to them of a panel of 18 experts, are reviewed and contrasted to the rapid progress and high ambition that characterize the field of malaria today.
