PERSEPSI MASYARAKAT TERHADAP FUNGSI KEKINIAN CATUSPATHA DENPASAR

Abstract

The current catuspatha of Denpasar is a legacy of the Badung Kingdom. It is composed both ofbuilt areas and an open space. These are transformed as the city changes, and the process affectsthe functions performed in the space. Catuspatha is a substantial traditional element of towns andshould be conserved. In order to determine current transformations, a preliminary study of publicperception was made using qualitative research methods. Findings demonstrate that socioeconomicfunctions dominate catuspatha in Denpasar. This however contradicts the Spatial Planfor Denpasar which designates the area for urban governance related functions. The expectation isthat the government will recognize the results of this study and consolidate a land use plan for theCatuspatha as an important legacy of the Badung Kingdom.
