FAMILY HEALTH AND SELF-CARE ROUTINES IN FAMILIES WITH A MEMBER WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS
Abstract
The aim of this research was to identify and analyze family health self-care routines among members of family groups with a member with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The methodological design was qualitative, descriptive, crosssectional. The instruments used were a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews that were applied to virtual focus groups. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 people distributed in three virtual focus groups, made up of an adult relative of a patient with T2DM, residents of Nuevo León or Tamaulipas. The narratives of the participants were analyzed from the subcategories of self-care routines, which are diet / meals and exercise / physical activity. In conclusion, self-care routines in family and individual health based on diet and meals, as well as exercise and physical activity are essential when it comes to supporting members with T2DM.
