Tonsillectomy cases in the Siriraj Hospital, 1961-1968
Abstract
An analysis of patients admitted into the Department of the Ear, Nose and Throat during the years 1961-1968 for tonsillectomy was presented. The total number was 4,560 averaging 570 per year, and comprising about one-third of all E.NT. cases. Most of them lived in the central part of Thailand. The male-to-female ratio was 1:1.4. The 11-20 age-group composed the majority of the cases. the most frequent complication was pyrexia, 22.93 per cent, whereas post-operative bleeding was only 1.3 per cent. There was no mortality.
