L’esclavage contemporain et ses transformations en Amazonie brésilienne : les témoignages des victimes
Abstract
This study deals with the actions of the Brazilian State and civil society regarding contemporary slave labor between 1995 and 2010, during the successive administrations of two presidents. After explaining the political and legal context of these actions, the authors present the most significant problems identified in the testimonies of workers who fled or were released from farms or charcoal kilns in the Amazon region (southeast Pará). The article draws special attention to the interlocutors and the way in which the victims addressed them. Their statements express perceived or lived violence, and present information on the birth, residence, and workplaces of the interviewees.
