Abstract This review summarizes the use of film-forming amines (FFAs) for corrosion protection in water/steam industrial circuits, focusing on carbon steel. It discusses industrial feedback on FFAs’ benefits and challenges, alongside experimental methods for studying their inhibition and structural properties. Key research areas include FFAs’ corrosion inhibition mechanisms, adsorption kinetics, and layer structures. The review also identifies knowledge gaps and suggests future research directions to deepen the understanding of FFAs.
