This article searches to discuss public policies aimed at quilombolas communi- ties from the colonial period up to the Michel’s Temer government. Therefore, at first, an analysis is made of the concept of the historical quilombo and the blocking process of the Brazilian peasantry from the access to land, seeking to evidence the violence historically suRered by the quilombolas and the Bra- zilian black peasantry. Subsequently, a reflection is made about the process of redetermination of the concept of quilombo and the genealogy of the rescue of the term quilombo in the Brazilian constitution and its later underconstitution legal definitions. Finally, is made the historical analysis of the public policies aimed at the Brazilian quilombola communities from the colonial period until the government of President Michel Temer.
