The University of Florence, the Municipality of Florence and the Tuscan Region have promoted a conference on “The European Landscape Convention: interpretations and applications” that took place, last June 16, 2006, in the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Academics from the most important Italian universities, experts in law, representatives of the institutions, city-planners and landscape architects took part in the conference.Aim of the conference was to examine principles expressed by the Convention and their integration in the Italian laws. The themes dealt with, in the interventions of the speakers and in the debate, landscape policies, management of the territory, the role played by planning, the relationship between State and local bodies about selfguarding and discipline of landscape, the relationship between the Convention and Codice dei beni culturali e del paesaggio recently changed.
