Gender equality is a significant indicator of the level achieved by humanization of a society and a prerequisite for its economic growth and development. From this stems the importance of studying these phenomena need to make it through a systematic approach to problem occurred applicable management model demographic trends and achieve increased social security both sexes and reduce the gender gap in the labour market. Equal pay for equal work is one of the most important aspects of gender equality in the labour market. Despite the fact that this principle was introduced in the laws, phenomena that women earn less than men is universal. Differences in earnings are caused by different characteristics of men and women, but different valuation of the same characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to show what are the factors that significantly affect the existence of gender gaps (and within it, the gender wage gap) in the labour markets of selected Balkan countries and EU member states that have gained membership from 2004 to 2014.
