Abstract

This article has tried to answer the questions “Are the studies about dialect important? Why is it necessary to study dialect?”. Moreover, in which fields the data obtained from dialect studies can be used has also been mentioned in this article. In this context, “culture-language, language-folklore and dialect studies” were discussed in a logical frame in the introduction part of the article. The texts compiled from the source subjects preserving the characteristies of Trabzon dialect were transferred to writing by using transcription and thanks to these texts, Trabzon dialect was tried to be studied in terms of voice and form. In the second part of the study, suggested ideas were tried to be concrete by considering general characteristics of Trabzon dialect. In the last part, how dialect studies and the results of them are closely related with both the past and future of a nation was explained.
