The purpose of this monograph is to offer some insights from the ongoing work of young researchers in Portugal on mother tongue teaching and learning. Although this is a mere sample of the research done thus far, the studies included in this volume contribute with perspectives and relevant information for various possibilities of reflection concerning the teaching and learning process of Portuguese as mother tongue. They are intended to bolster the citizens’ linguistic and discursive proficiency in the use of language – in reading, writing and speaking.
