The remarks contained in this article shall aim to ask at a particular angle the question of cohabitation between the city and its industry. Is it possible today to "live with" certain industries in highly urbanized environments? Some industrial establishments may indeed be a source of major risks and there are several families of responses mobilized to cope with the situation. At first, this entry will be mobilized on two specific spaces, the city of Montréal-Est in the Montréal agglomeration on one hand, and the city of Vitry-sur-Seine, Ile-de-France on the other. These two cities are occupied by oil deposits which can be dangerous. While some answers may be similar, there is a difference in terms of controlling urbanization, for which the second section will provide elements for clarification and explanation. In the third phase, the focus will be on these two oil depots studied. Despite some differences, the response called "urbanization control" may be very complex and difficult to implement. It is therefore a reflection on the place of industry in dense urban environments which is proposed under these two situations. It seems difficult to envisage the departure of industries or recreate « empty spaces » around them. This article invites to question the solutions that would encourage the « living with industries ».
