Abstract

Read online

Though he never had the privilege of being Hasumi Shigehiko’s student, Hamaguchi Ryūsuke was deeply influenced by two of his texts: Yasujirô Ozu and “The Power of Speech”, which was dedicated to Mizoguchi Kenji. Through this analysis of these texts interspersed with personal memories, Hamaguchi revisits the uniqueness of the Hasumian approach and his vision of cinema and criticism.
