The polar regions is one of the most sensitive areas to the response and feedback of global climate change and environmental pollution because of its unique geographical location and natural conditions, and occupies an important position in the study of global climate change and environmental pollution. As a new type of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), HBCDs has been widely concerned by the international society in recent years. This paper focused on the characteristics and summarized the research on HBCDs in polar regions and middle and low latitudes in recent years. The occurrence levels of HBCDs in the atmosphere, water, soil, sediment, vegetation and biology in the polar environment were compared and analyzed. The differences in the concentration distribution of their isomers in the multi-media were discussed and the possible reasons were explained. The important significance of HBCD’pollution prevention and its further environmental behavior research on human health and ecological environment security were also demonstrated.
