Epistemologie digitaler Experimentalsysteme am Beispiel von Zeitungsportalen. Methodologische und praktische Herausforderungen, Probleme und Perspektiven

Abstract

With the digitization of historical newspapers and their embedding into digital newspaper collections and portals a novel as well as specific research infrastructure for newspapers has emerged. Nevertheless, digitized newspapers and newspaper portals as a form of data and digital infrastructure are still rarely discussed. In light of this, the paper uses the concept of digital experimental systems to develop and pursue an epistemological perspective that methodologically questions the characteristics, effects and implications of digital research contexts in newspaper research, and that makes the resulting experimental scope visible. Methodological and practical challenges, problems and potentials will be elaborated and reflected exemplarily for newspaper portals as (1.) digital archives and collections, (2.) ›reading machines‹ and (3.) ›virtual research environments‹.
