TRADUÇÃO COMENTADA DO ATO III DA PEÇA SAVAGES, DE CHRISTOPHER HAMPTON, 1974: LITERATURA TRADUZIDA COMO REMINISCÊNCIA HISTÓRICA
Abstract
Even though there is still much discussion on the supposed antagonism played by domesticate vs. foreignise (VENUTI, 2002) it is important to bear in mind that many translation choices depend directly on his/her scope, besides the time, space, and context of the receiving audience – i.e. it depends completely on the translation project (NORD, 1997, p. 49). In my translation, of the third act of the play Savages, written in 1973 by British playwright Christopher Hampton, I chose for a path that, if you will, puts me between the domesticator and the foreigniser. Since I have no restrictions concerning the textual medium (NORD, 1997, p. 50) or the possible receptors of this text (actors and readers), instead of restricting my choices vis-à-vis the narrative as if necessarily aimed at the stage, I do not privilege any of these ways – but endeavour to follow both at the same time.
