Purposes In order to suppress the vertical vibration of the mill during rolling process, a multi-degree-of-freedom particle damping absorber (PDA) combined with dynamic vibration absorber and particle damping technology for vertical vibration control of the roll is propsed. Besides, the vibration transfer and energy dissipation behavior of the coupled Roll-PDA system is in vestigated. Methods A four-degree-of-freedom vertical vibration model of the coupled system is established, and the steady-state solution of the system is obtained by using the Incremental Harmonic Balance Method (IHBM).The influence law of the stiffness coefficients and damping coefficients in the PDA on the power flows is investigated. Findings The results show that, for different external excitation frequencies, the flow direction of the roll vibration energy of the rolls can be changed by controlling the PDA parameters. In addition, the effect of particle parameters on the vibration energy dissipation behavior of particle groups is analyzed by using PFC3D software simulation, and the results show that the smaller the particle size and the larger the filling rate, the better the particle group energy consumption effect.
