Adsorption studies of phenol and aniline from aqueous solution on to various active carbons are reported. The data indicate a maximum dependence for adsorption with temperature for both adsorbates, with that for aniline being considerably above the normal freezing point for the liquid. It is concluded that such anomalous behaviour cannot be attributed solely to a higher packing density for the adsorbate above its melting point as previously suggested and that some other thermodynamic reason must be sought.
