Abstract In this paper an elastic–plastic response has been developed to predict the pull-out behaviour of various hooked end fibres embedded in normal–high strength concretes. An elastic–plastic moment expression has been proposed to represent the partially plastic hinge formed during pull-out. The proposed formula has been incorporated into a frictional pulley force analysis in order to predict the applied loading at each stage of pull-out. This prediction accounts for the variation of geometrical and tensile properties of the fibres as well as concrete strength. The proposed model is validated against experimental pull-out results of various hooked end fibres.
