The present article seeks to make approximations between social policy and socio-territorial analysis. Confronting this analysis, it highlights the discussions that permeate social work in the context of social policies, especially in social assistance policy. It also seeks to situate and discuss research and evaluation as central and inherent elements of social policies abandoned by the managerial perspective and that need to be repositioned for the construction of the debate about the purposes of evaluation, from a socio-territorial perspective. Based on experiences developed in municipalities in the interior of São Paulo and the city of Londrina-PR, we sought to decipher two lines of force in the direction of territorial directions in social assistance policy: the strength of experience and the strength of the collective and public sense in action, seeking to approach ground and management.
