O RETRATO DE UM BRASIL-QUE-PASSA-FOME: a fome como expressão do subdesenvolvimento

Abstract

The article, anchored by the historical-dialectical materialist method, is the product of reflections carried out in the study and research group “Labor and Social Policy in Latin America – Open Veins''. This is a qualitative study that seeks, with the work of Josué de Castro and Carolina Maria de Jesus, to relate hunger with the ethnic-racial issue, from the Brazilian socio-historical formation, contributing to the apprehension of the hunger on the dynamics of dependent capitalism. In his work, Josué reveals the structural character of hunger and racism when he presents data on regions devastated by hunger, as a result of their historical-social determinations. Carolina, a woman, black and slum dweller, reports the daily experience of hunger, explaining the pattern of domination and violations arising from the color of her skin.
