A painful glomus tumour of the toe: A case report
Abstract
Glomus tumours are benign neoplastic lesions arising from a thermoregulatory microvascular apparatus known as the glomus body and composed of modified smooth muscle cells. Commonly affecting the hand, they are seldom reported in the foot. Symptoms consist of a classical triad of pain, pressure and sensitivity to cold. We report a case of a symptomatic glomus tumour overlying the apex of the third toe in a 66 year old female. Excision in our case was curative.
