This text presents some results of the research carried out at the State University of Rio de Janeiro on the relations between the Brazilian and Portuguese institutional geographies. The main idea is to reflect on the characteristics and trends of university geographic production in the 21st century in Brazil and Portugal, based on the articles published in two important scientific journals linked to two public universities in both countries, GEOgraphia, University Federal Fluminense, and FINISTERRA, of the University of Lisbon. First are woven considerations about the history and structure of periodicals. Next, the methodology of analysis used is presented and finally, in a detailed way, the data collected from the examination, classification and comparison of articles published in the Brazilian and Portuguese geographical periodicals are exposed and discussed. This text presents some results of the research carried out at the State University of Rio de Janeiro on the relations between the Brazilian and Portuguese institutional geographies.
