In this paper, we examine two Indian myths from Brazil, tryingto emphasize their systematicity in relation to the values they convey. Focusing on the theme of the emergence of the moon, we attempt to demonstrate that such narratives form a coherent and organized whole of meaning, which includes elements frequently taken as evidence of the chaos present in mythical discourse. In order to do so, we used the theoretical and methodological approach of French Semiotics, a theory concerned, specially, with the intradiscursive mechanisms of meaning construction.
