In order to solve the problems of large operating torque, easy internal leakage and poor anti-fouling capability of the general ball valves in the oil and gas pipelines, a new type of four-disc friction-free ball valve was designed based on the existing valve structures such as the double block and bleed valve and the orbit valve. Herein, the overall structure and operating principle of the four-disc friction-free ball valve, as well as the design scheme and the key technology of the transmission mechanism of the main valve and the operator, were introduced. Through the development performance test and the industrial application of oil pipelines, the new four-disc friction-free ball valve was verified to be of stable and reliable performance. The new ball valve, with the design idea expanded and the performance and service life improved greatly, can be promoted and applied in the oil pipeline engineering and petrochemical pipeline to improve the technical level and performance reliability of valves used in the national oil and gas pipelines, further to ensure the independence and safety control of the national energy transmission project.
