Latvian Theatre Today: Winds of Change

Abstract

The article gives an insight into the current situation of Latvian theatre, its administrative and artistic perspectives. It provides an overview of its financing models, emphasizing the increasing competitiveness of the independent theatres, as well as its most distinctive newcomers. Despite financial inequality between state funded and independent theatres, Latvian theatre today with its diversity of genres, directing styles and personalities has become one of the favourite cultural activities of the society.
