Peri vesical and retroperitoneal vascular injury following pd catheter insertion in a child: An unusual occurrence
Abstract
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an important modality of renal replacement therapy (RRT) in children in the acute setting. Despite the favorable outcomes of RRT, PD catheter insertions have various complications that may be related either to variations in procedural technique or infections. We report a case of a child with massive retroperitoneal and intra-abdominal bleeding secondary to injury to the inferior epigastric arterial arcade, near the urinary bladder following the insertion of a PD catheter.
