In the sights of the ultranationalist parties, migration from Africa (Moroccans, Somalis and, to a lesser extent, Ethiopians, Kenyans, Ugandans, Congolese and Chadians) to the European Union encompasses not only African citizens, but also people from the Near East and the Middle East/Asia. Improved living conditions in these countries of origin can mitigate migratory flows to Europe, although current efforts by international society are diluted by the many global challenges - terrorism, climate change, etc. - that demand immediate attention and resources and make it difficult to channel them towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, host countries can benefit from migratory flows for their own national development, depending essentially on political will and intelligence in the design and implementation of national programmes.
