The purpose of this article consists in to examine the concept of ‘official cordiality’, as conceived by the Brazilian historiographer Amado Cervo, under the perspective of a concept of “Cordial Man”, best known from the book “Roots of Brazil” by Sérgio Buarque de Hollanda. The article makes references to the construction of both concepts and points out to differences that allow us to know that “the official cordiality’ is not the diplomacy of the ‘cordial man’.
